Lynn Ballou, CFP®

Lynn Ballou, CFP® is Managing Partner of Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. She also serves as the CFP Board of Standards Ambassador for the San Francisco Bay Area, a role in which she educates the public about the importance of financial planning.

Since founding Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC in 1998 with long-time friend and colleague, Marilyn Plum, Lynn has helped the firm grow to more than $300 million in client advisory and brokerage assets. Under her guidance, the firm has become a trusted financial advisory office in the East Bay, one that places emphasis on an unparalleled level of service for every generation of its client base. This has also lead to the addition of a younger generation of team members that will carry on the Ballou Plum legacy for years to come.

Particularly passionate about educating women, Lynn has spent the last 30+ years helping women unravel the financial complexities that accompany retirement, inherited wealth, loss of spouse, divorce and other transitional moments in life. She feels the success of Ballou Plum isn't measured by money, but by the milestones they help their clients achieve.

An advocate for investor education, Lynn has taught taxation and financial planning as an adjunct faculty member of The College for Financial Planning through JFK University. She is also an active member of the Financial Planning Association and volunteers her time organizing and participating in San Francisco’s Financial Planning Day each year.

Lynn regularly pens a personal finance column for Lamorinda Weekly called “Lynn’s Top Five” and provides expert commentary to other local media outlets including the San Francisco Bay Area Women’s Journal, KRON 4 San Francisco and the San Francisco Chronicle. She has also been quoted by renowned national media publications including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and U.S. News & World Report, and has appeared on CNBC.

Lynn graduated with honors from the University of California, Los Angeles. An avid reader, Lynn can usually be found with her nose in a book. She loves taking long hikes with her dog, gardening and day tripping in Northern California with her husband, John. She also greatly enjoys spending time with her grown children, Meredith and Nicholas, and especially her granddaughter Luna.


Marilyn Plum, CFP®

Marilyn Plum, CFP® is Director of Portfolio Management at Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. Marilyn has helped the firm grow to more than $300 million in client advisory and brokerage assets. Marilyn is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER professional.

Throughout her more than 30-year career in the financial advisory business, Marilyn has become particularly well known for her financial planning expertise and client education on wealth preservation and portfolio management strategies. She especially enjoys assisting women in transition and helping them create sound financial decisions that address their unique challenges such as divorce, death in the family and inheritance.

Marilyn has dedicated an enormous amount of her talent to her profession, serving as the first female President and Chairwoman of the East Bay Chapter of the International Association for Financial Planning, now the FPA, as well as Chairwoman of the Northern California Regional Financial Planning Conference. She has also been a featured speaker for regional and national conferences of the Financial Planning Association and her industry peers.

As a highly regarded financial professional, Marilyn is frequently called upon to provide wealth management commentary and financial planning expertise for well-known publications such as The Wall Street Journal, CNBC.com, MSN.com, SmartMoney, USA Today and San Jose Mercury News. She has also been featured on KRON 4 San Francisco, discussing investing and market trends.

Marilyn graduated from University of the Pacific with a degree in International Studies. Marilyn and her husband, Todd, enjoy many outdoor sports including kayaking, skiing and white water rafting. They are worldwide travelers and also enjoy exploring what the western wilderness has to offer in their off-road RV.


Laura R. Knolle, MS, CFP®

Laura R. Knolle, MS, CFP® is a Financial Planner with Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. In her role with the firm, she specializes in working with clients to bring together all the pieces of their financial lives. Her expertise includes every aspect of financial planning from retirement planning to estate planning and cash flow management to tax planning. Laura is passionate about client education. She believes deeply that knowledge is true power and thus spends a great deal of time educating clients about their situation and their choices. Bringing all professionals to the table, Laura is collaborative in her approach to ensuring that clients have a team working in concert for their best interests.

Laura has been in the financial services industry for more than 10 years. She graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a B.A. in Finance, and from Golden Gate University with an M.S. in Financial Planning and Taxation, with an emphasis in Estate Planning. She is an active member of the Financial Planning Association. She heads up a study group for local professionals, and is also a volunteer bookkeeper for senior citizens through the Diablo Valley Foundation for Aging.

As an experienced planner, Laura has provided expert commentary on a number of financial-related topics for publications such as The Fiscal Times, MarketWatch, MORE magazine and Forbes.

Laura is a new mother and spends her time lavishing son Johnny Ray with love. She has a passion for fitness, nutrition and traveling. She also enjoys hiking with her husband John and their two dogs, biking, boot camp and lifting weights. Her love of travel extends well beyond that of a two week vacation, as Laura has had the opportunity to live and work abroad in London, England and Sydney, Australia.


Sid Ean, M.Sc

Sid Ean, M.Sc is the Chief Investment Officer at Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. He is responsible for performing extensive investment research and analysis, selecting and managing investment options, executing trades, and determining asset allocation models. Sid is responsible for providing information and making recommendations to the firm's Financial Planners on fund manager and investment selection, and active client portfolio management.

Sid received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Saint Mary’s College in 2004 and a Master’s Degree in Financial Analysis from University of San Francisco in 2010.

Sid has been with Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC since 2004. He lives with his wife and two sons in Castro Valley. Sid is an avid "foodie" and in his spare time he enjoys photography, playing sports and traveling.


Debi Murphy

Debi Murphy is the Director of Operations at Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. Her top priorities are working with clients and helping to run an efficient and productive office. She has been with Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC for over 10 years and has worked in financial services for over 35 years as an administrative assistant, registered representative, operations manager and branch manager with Prudential, Tucker Anthony and Charles Schwab.

Debi is a graduate of California State East Bay, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in California studies.  Debi and her husband Kevin live in Concord and love traveling, gardening, just about any new movie and being managed by their dog Buddy.  


Mark E. Young

Mark Young is the Client Services Manager at Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. As part of the operations team, Mark provides back-office and operational support to clients of the firm.

Mark has worked in financial services for over 15 years. Prior experience includes working on an institutional fixed-income sales desk, bank brokerage and most recently, four years at an independent registered investment advisor.

Mark is a graduate of San Diego State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance. He is currently enrolled in the Personal Financial Planning certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension.

Mark lives in Walnut Creek. In his spare time he enjoys golf, reading, traveling the southwest and going to the movies.


Cristina Holloway

Cristina Holloway is a Client Services Coordinator for Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. Cristina works closely with her colleagues to coordinate and provide superior service through direct client interaction.

Cristina has been in the finance and technology industry for over 20 years supporting high net worth clients. She brings a broad diversity in customer service, marketing communications, event planning, community relations, sales, and administration to Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors.

Outside of work, Cristina enjoys food and wine, watching a great game of football, and volunteering within the community for youth and health enrichment. She also enjoys exploring the great outdoors with her husband and three boys and attending her son’s professional cycling events.


Meredith Ballou

Meredith Ballou is a Client Services Coordinator for Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors, LLC. As part of the Operations and Research teams, she works closely with her colleagues to provide excellent service to clients.

Meredith attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and has worked in the fashion industry for seven years. Having worked as management in high end specialty retail, she brings her strong customer service sensibility with her to Ballou Plum Wealth Advisors.

Meredith lives in Concord with her new daughter, Luna and  her two loving beagles, Keno and Karma.
